Putney Basketville Floral Painted Basket. Lidded wood basket with painted flowers. Measures 6 1/2" in height by 11 1/2" long. Excellent condition aside from a little scraping on the latch wood.

This exquisite handcrafted basket is a genuine piece from Basketville, America's oldest basket company, based in Putney, Vermont. It features a sturdy woven wood construction with a solid wood lid adorned with a vibrant, hand-painted floral bouquet of roses and forget-me-nots. These painted baskets were popular mid-century retail items, often used as picnic baskets, sewing boxes, or even "basket purses" during the 1950s and 60s.

The basket measures 6.5 inches in height (excluding the handle) and 11.5 inches in length, making it a perfect size for decorative storage or as a unique cottagecore accessory. Unlike mass-produced modern versions, this vintage piece showcases the authentic "split wood" weaving technique and a stationary bentwood handle that are hallmarks of Vermont's traditional basket-making heritage. This piece likely dates from the peak of Basketville’s retail success in the mid-to-late 20th century, before their domestic factory operations closed in 1996.

The item in this listing is vintage, over 40 years old. While the item appears to be in excellent condition, there is the possibility I may have missed a minor detail. In the unlikely event I missed a major flaw, I would reach out prior to sending it.
